| UL94 Test for
flammability |
At DJK
Corporation, we provide services for the UL94 test for
flammability.
The flammability test is performed mainly
for the listing and recognition of the UL mark.
By
acquiring the UL mark your product is guaranteed for public
safety which meets the standards of UL (Underwriters
laboratory) which is a non-profit organization dedicated to
public safety.
We concentrate on the flammability test for
polymer materials used to construct parts in devices and
appliances.
The test for flammability is categorized into
5 types of tests.
- Horizontal burning test: also know as the HB test
- Thin material vertical burning test: categorized as
VTM-0,VTM0-1, VTM-2
- Vertical burning test: categorized as V-0, V-1, V-2
- Horizontal Burning Foamed Material Test: categorized as
HBF, HF-1, HF-2
- 500W vertical burning test: categorized as 5VA and 5VB
These tests measure the characteristics of the
material in time, condition and texture it burns.
As a
result UL authorizes if the material is safe enough to be used
in the end product to sell in the market.
The UL94 test
for flammability is also available from our partner company
STR based in Connecticut as the ATDP test (Agent test data
program).
When urgent testing is needed this program is
very helpful. |

The UL 1446 is a
standard of evaluation test method using upper bound
temperature as the system is reviewed.
The electrical
insulation system is a collection of materials that, when used
together, has an established thermal class rating and the
materials fall into three areas: conductors, major insulation
components and minor components.
The demand in recent
electronic components in high temperature for a product is now
a must.
This standard is evaluated as a system that
composes material that make up components such as, Plastic,
Magnet wire, Insulating film, Tape, Varnish, etc. in
certificated testing such as the transformer, motor,
solenoids, and generators.
If it doesn't meet this
standard even if the Plastic takes a temperature rating more
than the 746B regulation, it is not possible to use it for
these products in the temperature of 120 or higher. The
composition material is divided into two.
- Major components:
- Plastic, Magnet Wire, and insulating film
- Minor components:
- Tape, cord, lead wire, potting material, varnish The
system model composed of these components is heated with the
heat aging test at three temperatures.
By using the
control of the certificated system temperature rating,
UL
decides the temperature rating from the differences below.
The system temperature ratings:
120,130,155,180,200,220,240
The advantage for the
Plastic manufacturer for obtaining the system recognition is
that when the component supplier submits the components, the
Plastic manufacturer obtains recognition short-term at a low
price by the shield tube test.
If any company wants to try
UL1446, we recommend the examination with STR based on
experience, technology, and
knowledge.
